Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to feel comfortable upon arriving at our clinic.  So we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions for  you.

Q:  What should I wear to my PT appointment?

A:  We want you to be able to move comfortably.  Comfortable clothes that you can exercise in and comfortable shoes like athletic shoes are best.

Q:  What is a PT evaluation like?

A:  Your PT evaluation will take place in a private treatment room with a physical therapist.  We will talk to  you about the issue you are seeking care for, what your goals are, and other pertinent medical history.  We then conduct an examination evaluation which includes measurements like range of motion, flexibility, strength, balance, and mobility.  We perform palpation to structures to analyze where your pain is coming from.  We perform special tests to determine which structures are involved.  Finally, we offer tools to  help you feel better.  We want to give you strategies the first day in order to make significant improvement.

Q:  Is Physical Therapy painful?

A:  Our goal is to make you feel better.  We use a variety of tools including manual therapy, modalities, taping, and exercise to help alleviate your pain.  It is important to us to monitor your pain level at each visit.  While some treatments are painful, such as regaining motion after a joint replacement, we believe that it is equally important to help you manage your pain during your therapy sessions.

Q: How many visits will it take for me to get better?

A:  After your first visit, we will give you an estimate for how long it will take to reach your individualized goals.  While many conditions might warrant 2-3 visits per week, we will work with you to manage your visits in a way that fits with your schedule and finances.  On average, most musculoskeletal conditions take 6-8 weeks for full recovery.

Q:  How long are my appointments?

A:  Your initial evaluation is typically one hour in duration.  Your follow up visits are typically 45 minutes.  These visits will take place one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
